The Story of Lost Dutchman Spirits
ABOUT THE LOST DUTCHMAN
Hidden deep within the Superstition Mountains of Arizona lies one of the world’s most enduring and dangerous legends – the Lost Dutchman Mine.
For decades, rumours surrounded a vast gold deposit known only to a handful of people, but it was Jacob Waltz who became inseparably linked to it. Known as The Lost Dutchman, Waltz was said to return repeatedly from the mountains with pockets heavy with gold, yet never revealed its source. He was methodical, cautious, and intensely private, a man who understood that true value is found beneath the surface.
As his health failed in 1891, the legend took its most haunting turn. On his deathbed, Jacob Waltz is said to have finally shared directions to the mine. The secret did not die with him but it was never fully unlocked. The information was fragmentary, cryptic, and open to interpretation. Those words ignited a hunt that would span generations.
To this day, the Lost Dutchman Mine has never been conclusively found.
What followed was not just curiosity, but obsession. Prospectors, adventurers and fortune-seekers were drawn into the mountains, following clues, shadows and half-truths. Many returned emptyhanded, some never returned at all. The mine became a symbol of patience tested, of risk taken, and of how far people will go in pursuit of something truly rare.
Lost Dutchman Spirits is our ode to Jacob Waltz and the legend he left behind.
Not a celebration of gold, but of the qualities that shaped the legend: discipline, restraint, independence and an uncompromising approach to craft. Waltz knew that revealing everything at once diminished its value, the richest veins were protected, revealed only to those willing to dig deeper.
That philosophy guides everything we do.
Our gins are built like hidden seams beneath the earth. Botanicals are selected and layered carefully, each one a distinct vein contributing character, balance and depth. Nothing dominates unnecessarily; everything has a purpose. The final spirit is not forced into being, it is uncovered through patience and refinement.
For our cask-aged expressions, time becomes an ingredient. Resting in oak, the spirit is left to evolve slowly, much like something left underground, shaped quietly by its surroundings. The cask adds warmth, texture and complexity not through haste, but through stillness.
Much like the search for the mine, our process is deliberate and unhurried. We don’t rush discovery. We believe that the most rewarding results come to those willing to wait, adjust, and respect the craft.
The name Lost Dutchman is a reminder that some things aren’t meant to be obvious or mass-produced. They are meant to be sought out, appreciated, and shared by those who recognise their worth.
The mine remains lost.
The legend endures.
And the spirit lives on, carefully uncovered, bottle by bottle.
ABOUT THE FOUNDERS
Lost Dutchman Spirits was founded in 2021 by Quinten and Paul, inspired by a story Paul shared from his teenage years growing up in the Middle East. It was there, distilling alongside his older brother, that Paul first discovered the craft of distillation, creating Siddiqui, a name derived from the Arabic word “Sadiq”, meaning “Friend.”
After two years of development, and overcoming several challenges along the way, their first batch of what are now multi-award-winning gins was released to the public in January 2024.
In October 2024, Lost Dutchman Spirits expanded the experience with the launch of their Gin School, inviting customers to create their own bespoke gin using individual 1-litre Nano Stills.
